The Return of Lenten Devotions

The Return of Lenten Devotions

Traditional Lenten Devotions began last weekend in St. Augustine’s and will continue each Sunday of Lent at 5.30pm.The Devotions of Solemn Evening Prayer (Vespers) and Benediction provide an opportunity for our parish community to come together to pray for particular intentions in the lead-up to Easter. It’s also a chance for our children and young altar-servers to gain an insight into some of the traiditonal liturgies of the Church. Each week we are accompanied by Greg on the organ and some of our choir members. The hymns and antiphons are also led by our cantors, with Frances and Victoria taking the lead last Sunday.

Given the recent news of the Holy Father’s approaching retirement, last week prayed together for his happy and peaceful retirement as he stands down from his ministry as Bishop of Rome.

Many of our older parishioners also noted how nice it was to see our youngsters spending time kneeing before the Blessed Sacrament in silent prayer. Please God this practice will continue to grow in our parish.

Please make the effort to join us for our weekly Lenten Devotions each Sunday at 5.30pm, and do encourage your children to come along.
