Santa’s Last Stop

Santa’s Last Stop

In keeping with our annual tradition at St. Augustine’s we made an appeal to all our families and young people in the run-up to Christmas for wrapped gifts for girls and boys who were in need of a few more presents from Santa! In the past these parcels were sent to Eastern Europe with the Scottish charity Clann Sona. However, with the charity no longer operating we looked closer to home to help children in the west coast of Scotland. We were overwhelmed once again with the generosity of the good people of Coatbridge in supporting our appeal. It was heartening to watch our young children carefully placing their wrapped gift under the Christmas trees or near the crib on the altar, knowing that their presents were going to help another child. It is a heartening image to see children helping other children at this time of year; a reminder even to our younger parishioners that there is great joy to be found in giving as well as receiving.

Last Sunday these hundreds of gifts were bagged in black Santa sacks, and transported to the Sisters of the Gospel of life in Glasgow. It will now be their happy task to distribute these gifts to children and families in their care. (For more information about the Sisters’ work click here)

Once again, we thank all those who contributed to this appeal and we pray that God will bless all those children who will benefit from Santa’s last stop!
