Parish Mission

Parish Mission

During the week 27th September to 4th October we will have the pleasure of welcoming a renowned Redemptorist Fr. Jim McManus to lead us in a Parish Mission. Fr. McManus gives missions and retreats all over the world and so we are honoured to have him lead us in a special week of prayer and reflection. He brings a wealth of knowledge and years of pastoral experience as a religious priest. During his last visit some weeks ago Fr. McManus encouraged us all to prepare as individuals, families and as a parish for a week filled with many graces and blessings. We pray that this will mark a moment of renewal and growth within our parish community. Each Catholic home in the parish (all 1806 homes!) should already have received a leaflet about the Mission through the letterbox. This document gives all relevant details about our Mission, as well as a detailed timetable of events. You can download a copy of this leaflet by clicking here.

We warmly invite all our parishioners to make time to attend the events of our Mission. This invitation is extended to the lapsed, those of other parishes and our non-Catholic friends. You are especially invited to join us at the Main Mission Mass on Thursday 2nd October at 7.30pm when we will have the pleasure of welcoming our new Bishop as the Principal Celebrant.

Workers (and even school children) are also encouraged to attend our 7am Mass during the weekdays of the Mission. This is a great way to begin a new day with God. You can also enjoy your breakfast in our Hall immediately after this Mass. (Hot rolls / drinks etc by donation).

Finally, we encourage you to pray each day for the success of our Mission. Our Mission Prayer, composed for the occasion, if found below:

Mission Prayer

God our Father, We thank you for the many ways in which we have been blessed, and we ask your help in all our needs. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us as we entrust our Parish Mission to your guidance and protection. Help us to experience the joy of the Gospel as we reach out to our brothers and sisters with whom we share the gift of faith. May we work with all people of good will so that the world may experience your kingdom of truth, justice, peace and love. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
