The Close of Another Year for ALMA

The approach of summer time always marks the end of our parish ALMA club for the holidays, but this gives us the perfect time to recharge our batteries for more fun when we are reunited after the break. Since we started last August we have had many celebrations together, last of which was our Halloween party which we reported some months ago. But the ALMA spirit did not stop there!

Over the year we have come together to celebrate Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter in our own special way.

For the Christmas festivities all of the five local ALMA clubs from all over the diocese came together in Moodiesburn for a huge Christmas celebration where we danced, played games and, if you had been good all year round, got a visit from Santa! This gave us a chance to celebrate the season of joy with our other friends from all different areas.

Our groups then came together again in February where we are invited annually to Holy Cross High School, enjoying the hospitality of the 6th year pupils who put on a Valentine’s Day Disco. This yearly event is always a fantastic night and one which everybody looks forward to!

As if that wasn’t enough, as a parish group we also marked the end of 2013 with a visit to see The Wizard of Oz in Motherwell Civic Centre. And our Easter holidays were celebrated with a trip to the Hollywood Bowl to challenge each other in a game of 10-pin bowling.

In order to help finance all of our endeavours we had a fantastic night in St Patricks Church Hall where we had our first fundraiser of the year and managed to raise a fantastic £500 from ticket sales and raffles. This money will go a long way in helping us to fund all of the activities which we plan to do in the future. The fantastic weather last week then inspired us to finish off our year with our first, and hopefully not our last, Beach Party. The church hall could easily have been mistaken for Hawaii as it was full of palm trees, sand, garlands and lots of grass skirts. The night began with musical chairs, hook the duck and musical statues, and finished with a famous ALMA dance party!

This was a perfect send off for our group this summer and we look forward to the year to come!
