Parish Pilgrimage: Day 5
Parish Pilgrimage: Day 5
We began today with a walking tour of the historical centre of this medieval city. We then celebrated Holy Mass in the Cathedral with the Archbishop of Santiago and thousands of Pilgrims who had Judy completed the Camino walk. Since today is Pentecost Sunday there was a special Procession before Mass, at the end of which we witnessed the swinging of the enormous thurible which is synonymous with this Cathedral.
After Mass pilgrims went in search of a place to eat. Many tried the local Galician cuisine, including some interesting tapas dishes!
In the afternoon we gathered for a tour of the Cathedral interior, with an opportunity to venerate the holy relics of St James the Apostle.
After dinner at the hotel most pilgrims returned to the city to soak up the atmosphere of Santiago’s narrow streets.
Tomorrow we depart to travel south and over the border into Portugal, and Our Lady’s Shrine of Fatima.
