Christmas Lunch / Concert for Care Home Residents

Within our parish community we are responsible for the faithful care of four local nursing homes: Summerlee, Woodside, Millbrae and Deanston. Every week throughout the year each care home is visited by different Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist in order that our care home residents can recieve Holy Communion. A monthly Mass is also celebrated in each community by Fr Kane. These interactions have led to a strong bond being built between the residents of each home and our parish, making us all one, strong parish community. So, in order to give back for the ongoing commitment of the staff and residents in each care home, who allow us to continually fulfil our duties, our outstanding Senior Choir  visit annually and perform in each home over the festive season. However, this year, with the introduction of our Youth SSVP group, we decided to continue this tradition but with a twist! Instead of making four individual visits to the residents in each home we decided to hold a joint Christmas Lunch and Carol Service in our parochial hall. This event took place on Sunday the 14th of December where every resident from the four care homes was invited to attend a three course meal followed by a performance of the Senior Choir. After the fantastic Christmas meal and the pulling of our crackers the 20-piece choir took to the stage with a rendition of many classic Christmas carols, from Jim Reeves to Jingle Bells, all of which got everyone singing and left many in tears (happy ones we hope!). The day was an incredible success with the attendance of over 50 residents who not only left with some good memories, but also with a raffle prize in hand. This was a fantastic way to bring different members of our parish community together to celebrate the festive season.

A massive thank-you is required to everyone who helped make the day possible, including the caterers, our Senior Choir, the Youth SSVP and all the staff, residents and family of Summerlee, Woodside, Millbrae and Deanston Care Homes.

We look forward to continuing this new tradition next year.
