Third Sunday of Ordinary Time (A)
Sunday 26th January 2014
Charity Number: SCO11041
A New Chapter for Brother Oliver
Earlier in the week Brother Oliver, a member of our De la Salle Community based in Blair Road, left the parish to join a new community in Southampton. The news comes after some weeks of health concerns for Brother who is ninety-five years old. The new accommodation was organised at short notice and he left us after the Morning Mass last Wednesday. This Sunday’s 12noon Holy Mass will be celebrated for his intentions.
Brother Oliver has been a valued and familiar face in our community these past fourteen years. Many will know him from daily Mass and as a Reader. Many others will have their own memories of his small acts of kindness. Some may even have spotted him in the stands of Parkhead!
We wish Brother all the very best as he now enters retirement. His new community consists of twelve other Brothers whom he knows well from various others postings in Scotland and England. The Church as a whole, and our parish in particular, owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Brother Oliver and his fellow brothers for their faithfulness and dedication, particularly in the field of education. Many of you will know that Brother Oliver was himself a Headteacher in his former days, being granted his first headship at the age of just twenty-seven! It is a sure sign of the calibre of his gifts and talents.
May God grant to our Brother Oliver a happy and peaceful retirement for many years to come. Ad multos annos!

Any young person (primary 5 and above) wishing to join our group of altar-servers are asked to speak to Fr. Kane after Mass this weekend. This can be an excellent way for our young people to show greater participation at Mass. Servers should be willing to serve on the altar each week at the Mass they usually attend. Training and consent forms will be given to new servers.
PARTICIPATION AT MASS
Parents of Candidates for Sacraments (First Confession; First Holy Communion and Confirmation) are reminded of the importance of bringing their child to Mass each week. The 10am Family Mass, with Children’s Liturgy, is best suited to our young Candidates.
DIOCESAN EDUCATION MASS
An invitation is extended to those within the teaching profession to join Bishop Toal for the Education Mass in Motherwell Cathedral on Tuesday 28th January at 7.30pm. Refreshments will follow afterwards in St. Bride’s Hall.
Parishioners can still sign-up as prayer partners to our young Candidates. This is an opportunity to pray for each young person in their journey towards the Sacrament and beyond. Feel free to sign your name against a Candidate in the large books in the porch of the Church. (Max. 2 per child)
CHARITY COFFEE MORNINGS
Parishioners are invited to support two coffee mornings in aid of two worthy charities being supported by our Confirmation Candidates. Donations of home baking would be greatly appreciated. Donations of books, CD’s/DVD’s, toys, bottles, tombola items and raffle prizes would also be gratefully received. The events will take place in our Parish Hall. Details are as follows:
Next Sunday 2nd February – after 10am and 12noon Masses
Sunday 16th February – after 10aqm and 12noon Masses
CHARITY APPEAL FOR BACK-PACKS (MARY’S MEALS)
