— THE YEAR OF FAITH —

THE EIGHT BEATITUDES

How happy are the poor in spirit:

theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Happy the gentle:

they shall have the earth for their heritage.

Happy those who mourn:

they shall be comforted.

Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right:

they shall be satisfied.

Happy the merciful:

they shall have mercy shown them.

Happy the pure in heart:

they shall see God.

Happy the peacemakers:

they shall be called sons of God.

Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right:

theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Happy are you when people abuse you

and persecute you

and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account.

Rejoice and be glad

for your reward will be great in heaven.

THE YEAR OF FAITH

THE EIGHT BEATITUDES:

As part of our reflections on the Year of Faith we must surely give pride of place to the Eight Beatitudes.   These have been cherished down the ages, not only by Christians, but by any sincere person who wishes to play a part in promoting a just and compassionate society.   They were proclaimed by Jesus from the top of a high mountain.   It falls to us to proclaim them by the lives we lead.

FEAST DAYS

Thursday         Saint John Chrysostom, Bishop & Doctor

Friday              The Exaltation of the Cross, Feast

Saturday          Our Lady of Sorrows

CONCERNING MASS CARDS

We have received notice from the Diocesan Chancellor that Mass cards are being sold and circulated in the district without appropriate authorisation and without any guarantee that the Masses requested will be celebrated.   This is of course a matter of grave concern and parishioners are advised to establish that their requests for Mass to be offered for their intentions are honoured.

MONTHLY ROSARY GROUP

The monthly Rosary Group will continue on the Fridays of each month. The next meeting will be 7th September at 7pm, hosted by the Bradley family, 102 Drumpellier Avenue. We recite the Rosary together with children sharing in leading the decades; young and old are welcome. Come and rediscover this traditional devotion or perhaps come and introduce your children to the Rosary. Further information from Ailish Lanahan 436705

THE NATIONAL PILGRIMAGE IN HONOUR OF ST MARGARET

Sunday 9 September at 3.00 PM

10AM MASS, YOUTH MUSIC GROUP

We are looking to enlist the services of our budding singers and musicians for a new music group to accompany the 10am Sunday Family Mass. This invitation is directed particularly to the younger members of our parish with the view of engaging them in an active and energetic music ministry. If you have a musical talent or simply enjoy ‘singing out’ please let us know about it. Short, informal practices will take place each week after the 10am Mass. For more information speak to one of the priests or Greg McHugh our organist.

Our first practice will be after the 10am Mass today, Sunday 9th September, with a view to make a start at the Masses early in November.
